Gail Robinson's story about a Brooklyn high school facing closure won first prize in the annual awards of the Education Writers Association.

"Who Killed John Dewey High?" recounted the history of the once-heralded Gravesend school and investigated potential causes for its performance problems.

It was named the best article in the general coverage, small newsroom, single topic category.

In 2010, a team of City Limits reporters headed by Helen Zelon won second prize in EWA's investigative reporting category for our coverage of President Obama's plan to model anti-poverty programs after the Harlem Children's Zone. In 2009, City Limits won a special citation from EWA for a story detailing the unprecedented role of non-educators in the city Department of Education under then-Chancellor Joel Klein.
