City Futures is the nonprofit home to City Limits magazine and website and the think tank Center for an Urban Future. Through the Center for an Urban Future and City Limits, we seek to move lawmakers and the public toward policies that increase the number of good jobs, improve the quality and scope of government services, strengthen the social service safety net and enhance the quality of life in New York's neighborhoods.
The Deputy Director is responsible for building the organization's advertising and subscription revenue base; increasing the organization's stability, visibility and reach; overseeing the general administration of the organization; and managing the development and fundraising efforts.
The following are the desired qualifications for this position:
* A passion for New York City policy and politics;
* A minimum of two to four years in a management position and familiarity with nonprofit organizations;
* Experience managing projects, including staff time and budget, with firm deadlines;
* Knowledge of financial management systems;
* Experience in development and special events;
* Strong written and verbal communication skills;
* Online and print publishing experience a plus;
* Self-starter, detail-oriented, and organized;
* Fluency in Microsoft Office a must and experience with Quickbooks, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and/or knowledge of HTML a plus.

PROJECT SAFE HOME COORDINATOR--New Destiny Housing Corporation--New Destiny Housing Corporation, a New York City nonprofit that promotes the safety and stability of low-income families and individuals at risk of domestic violence and homelessness, is initiating a 3-year pilot-Project Safe Home-to link eligible domestic violence shelter residents with vacant apartments in existing low-income housing tax credits projects.
The Project Safe Home Coordinator will implement the program, supervising a part-time Trainer and reporting directly to the Executive Director. Specific responsibilities include:
* Identifying additional for-profit and not-for-profit low-income housing tax credit landlords and transitional domestic violence shelters to participate in the program
* Communicating regularly with landlords to determine tenant requirements and the locations and characteristics of vacant units
* Maintaining up-to-date listings of available units and sending vacancy information to participating shelters on a regular basis
* Designing a curriculum to train shelter clients and staff on how to prepare competitive applications for available apartments
* Educating property managers on issues faced by survivors of domestic violence Pre-screening applications prior to submission to landlords/property managers
* Creating and maintaining a tracking system for submitted applications and periodically assessing and analyzing outcomes
* Conducting quarterly meetings with shelter providers and tax-credit property managers to monitor progress of program
* Assessing the progress of the program and suggesting and implementing course corrections where appropriate
Qualifications
* Master's degree in Planning, Real Estate Finance, Community Development, or a related field
* Minimum 3 years of experience in affordable or supportive housing or community planning or development
* Proven ability to work independently and energetically to build and deliver a program
* Ability to communicate well with different constituencies
* Strong written and oral skills
* Computer literacy and experience using Excel
