Andrea Batista Schlesinger
Andrea Batista Schlesinger recently left City Hall where she was a Special Advisor to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services. In this role she coordinated the Mayor’s Young Men’s Initiative, a comprehensive package of policy reform and programmatic initiatives designed to reduce the disparities challenging Black and Latino young males. For eight years prior to joining the administration, Andrea served as Executive Director of the Drum Major Institute, a leading progressive think tank focused on issues of economic policy, the middle-class, immigration reform and urban policy in New York City and beyond. She is the author of the book "The Death of Why: The Decline of Questioning and the Future of Democracy" (Berrett-Koehler: 2009).
