Julia Cintron participates in activities at the Grand Street Settlement senior center, volunteers with the Baruch Elders Services Team and lives in Baruch Houses, a naturally occurring retirement community (NORC). A NORC is a community of seniors who have aged in place. Because BEST provides services in a NORC and is not exclusively a senior center, it will not be directly affected by the Department for the Aging’s proposed changes to senior centers. However, it may be impacted by consolidation and budget cuts. Here, Cintron mails bills in Baruch Houses. A central concern of seniors living there is safety – there appears to be a bullet hole in the mailbox.
