In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, volunteer efforts have sometimes been more visible than official government recovery work. From feeding the hungry to treating the sick to doing clean-up work in flooded houses, neighborhood groups and grassroots collectives have coordinated a multifaceted response to the storm.
