Plants grow atop Brooklyn Fireproof bar at Ecostation:NY’s Farm in the Sky.
EcoStation:NY is a local nonprofit which aims its food justice programs at impoverished communities in Bushwick. With five farmers markets and several programs at neighborhood schools and community gardens, EcoStation is working to educate and feed Bushwick. The group’s recent successful fundraiser centered on a rooftop garden called the Farm in the Sky, where volunteers and staffers grow produce and herbs for local markets and eateries. As the continuous demographic flux of New York City changes Bushwick, area people are employing a variety of approaches to bring people together in a place where neighbors can seem far apart.
