With Saturday's temperatures expected to once again climb past 90 degrees, a public pool might not be a bad place to cool off, if you can deal with the crowds, of course. There are, as we mentioned in a recent article, various “cooling centers” that provide refuge during a heat wave, though these are mostly just libraries with air conditioning. If you have kids with you or just want to do something more active while beating the heat, one of the city’s public pools is definitely the better bet.
The question is: is the grass greener, the water bluer, or the pool less crowded in other major cities? City Limits did some research to find out. The following slides rank and compare New York City public pools with those of the four other most populous cities in the U.S. (Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Phoenix). You be the judge.
