Elizabeth Holtzman on “The Role of the Comptroller in NYC Government”

The WCC cannot think of a better way to celebrate Women’s History Month than by having the trailblazer of NYC politics herself–Elizabeth Holtzman–come and speak with WCC members and guests. Holtzman is the first and, to date, only woman ever elected as NYC Comptroller as well as the only woman ever to serve as NYC District Attorney. In addition, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1973 to 1981. At that time, she was the youngest woman ever to serve in this branch of government. Among her many accomplishments as congresswoman, was the extension of the deadline for state legislatures to ratify the proposed Equal Rights Amendment and the passage of legislation in 1978 to expel more Nazi war criminals who had immigrated to the United States. And, of course, we all remember her historic role on the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate Hearings.
At this event, Holtzman will come and speak with members and guests specifically about her experiences as comptroller and how she thinks the Office needs to function best to serve the City. She will also discuss her new book about Bush and Cheney called Cheating Justice and then participate in a book-signing after our program. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask Holtzman questions after her presentation.
