All the Best People
Presented by 1:1
1:1 is proud to present its final
exhibition ALL THE BEST PEOPLE. 1:1
was conceived as a year-long
collaborative art piece, opening a
discursive space at the physical
location of 121 Essex St. For this
exhibition we have gathered together
artists whose work embodies the spirit
of 1:1, all committed to rupturing the
banal: politically, socially, and
aesthetically (which we recognize as
inseparable). This exhibition and its
sequence of performances and events
culminates on February 14th with a
Valentine’s day feast as well as BLOOD,
the final installment of Whitney
Vangrin’s performance trilogy BLOOD,
SWEAT, AND TEARS, signaling not the
end of 1:1 but its transmutation into
another form. As Genesis BREYER P.
ORRIDGE would put it, 1:1 is dropping
its body, before it is forced to ossify.
Come celebrate this transformation
and bask in the ongoing series of
excitements and provocations 1:1
initiated in its first year of existence.

Zarina: Paper Like Skin
Presented by Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
This retrospective of Indian-born American artist Zarina Hashmi is the first major exploration of the master printmaker’s career, charting a developmental arc from her work in the 1960s to the present and including many seminal works from the late 1960s and early 1970s, woodblock prints, etchings and lithographs, and a small selection of related sculptures in bronze and cast paper. The Guggenheim’s recent acquisition of 20 works from a major series of pin drawings from 1975 to 1977 serves as a fulcrum for the presentation, which is conceived in close collaboration with the artist. The exhibition has been curated by Allegra Pesenti, Curator, Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts, Hammer Museum, where it opened in September 2012. The Guggenheim presentation is organized by Sandhini Poddar, former Associate Curator of Asian Art, with Helen Hsu, Assistant Curator, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Zarina: Paper Like Skin was organized by the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. The presentation at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is supported in part by the Leadership Committee for Zarina: Paper Like Skin, with special thanks to Luhring Augustine, New York.
