Million Dollar Quartet

Presented by New World Stages

On December 4, 1956, an auspicious twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together. The place was Sun Records' storefront studio in Memphis. The four legends-to-be united for the only time in their careers for an impromptu recording that has come to be known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time. The show features a treasure trove of rock 'n' roll, gospel, R&B and country hits from these music legends, including 'Blue Suede Shoes,' 'Fever,' 'Sixteen Tons,' 'Who Do You Love?,' 'Great Balls of Fire,' 'Riders in the Sky,' 'I Walk the Line,' 'Folsom Prison Blues' and 'Whole Lotta' Shakin' Goin' On.'

Sistas: The Musical

Presented by St. Luke's Theatre

'Sistas: The Musical' is an uplifting musical journey, of a multi-generational African-American family. It is based on a series of interviews conducted with black women over a six-year period and uses songs that capture the mood and speak to the issues of each period and time. From 'Strange Fruit,' 'Society's Child,' 'Taint Nobody's Business' - to expressions of self-worth and independence: 'I am Not My Hair' by India.Arie, Alicia Keyes' 'A Woman's Worth,' 'Golden' by Jill Scott and, Erykah Badu's 'Tyrone.' It tells of the struggles, the joys and the triumphs of being Black and of being a woman in America. Told through the life and experiences of one woman and the women in her family, the story segues from the days of Jim Crow to the present and covers a range of topics from segregation, the women's movement to the meaning of love and control. In the end, the women find strength in each others' stories and arrive at a way to best honor the memory of their beloved Grandma - a seminal figure in their development as strong and accomplished women.
