Job Summary Build and manage relationships with individuals and organizations in the communities served by BCS programs, engage and recruit community members to serve as leaders, participate in projects and campaigns, and attend/co-sponsor BCS events. Initiate and lead projects through strategic thinking and planning, issue identification, and coalition building; build a mobilization plan with community contacts and leaders, and make recommendations for moving forward. o Help to build new partnerships and maintain existing ones. o Design and implement effective outreach and organizing strategies. o Spearhead relationship-building and cultivate meaningful collaborations with community leaders, clergy, schools and community-based organizations. o Increase awareness and strengthen community relationships for BCS and its programs through advocacy, events and partnerships. o Represent BCS at local events, community gatherings, and workshops; and to community leaders, local politicians, and community-based organizations. o Pitch co-sponsorship and partnership opportunities to community organizations, corporations, and colleges and universities to support BCS events, and coordinate BCS presence at other organizations' community events. o Cultivate relationships and provide support to dignitaries and special guests who attend events. o Conduct/facilitate effective one-on-one meetings and large community groups. o Support the coordination, outreach and promotional activities of BCS program events. o Work with Outreach and Engagement Manager to identify a core group of volunteers to assist with community organizing and outreach activities. o Assist in drafting and production of BCS publications, flyers and invitations to BCS program events, and act as liaison to coordinate distribution of such materials. o Help to distribute appropriate public education materials. o Utilize social media to build awareness and engage the broader community. o Contribute to foundation reports and grant proposals as needed. o Work with ERA (External Relations and Advancement)Team to write fact sheets, articles for the annual report, online newsletter articles and blog posts. o Develop and maintain database consisting of community and stakeholders contact list. o Work with the ERA Team to actively recruit interns to support department activities. o Participate in and support all other ERA activities as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications High-energy self-starter who has the ability to inspire people and engage them in BCS programs and work collaboratively to serve people in need. Bachelor’s Degree required. Experience working in the nonprofit and/or public service sector required. Demonstrated organizational skills with project management abilities. Familiarity with diverse communities in Brooklyn. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with diverse populations and a “can do” team player attitude. Strong data management and analytical skills, including the ability to collect information, determine key objectives, produce reports and act strategically. Coalition building skills, including the ability to motivate, negotiate, and persuade community members and clients to participate in activities. Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and public speaking. Spanish language fluency strongly preferred.
