Internship, Research, Policy and Evaluation

Reports to: Director of Research, Policy and Evaluation
Hours: Flexible, 8-15 hours per week from September through December, 2013
WHEDco's Research, Policy and Evaluation Department provides research support for WHEDco's work, including exploring trends in our programs and in our community in order to support the organization's efforts in innovative and responsive program design, determining the impacts WHEDco's programs have on participants and the community, and providing data and information for key stakeholders. The Research, Policy and Evaluation intern will engage with the Director of the Research, Policy and Evaluation department on specific projects, primarily focused on community development including a needs assessment of the Melrose neighborhood, understanding the impact of WHEDco's cultural programming on participants and the surrounding community, and conducting literature reviews on place-making to guide measurement development.
Support the development, dissemination and collection of a needs assessment survey, and basic survey data analysis
Engage with teaching artists to collect data and stories on participants to better understand the impact of community arts
Conduct literature review on place-making and community development focused on the impact of cultural spaces
Excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical and creative thinking skills Strong writing skills, including ability to synthesize and effectively communicate ideas in a clear, concise manner Computer proficiency Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively High-level of professionalism and maturity Commitment to social justice and WHEDco’s mission Interest in community development and cultural institutions preferable Recent graduate, undergraduate or graduate student currently pursuing a degree in urban planning, urban affairs, public policy, sociology, or similar fields Bilingual English/Spanish highly desirable
