Associate, Housing & Community Development
National Urban League
The National Urban League seeks an Associate, who will oversee the execution of programs and services related to homeownership and financial literacy within the Housing and Community Development Division. The successful candidate will work to refine strategies for technical assistance and program designs that advance homeownership, financial literacy, asset building, and other self-sufficiency models. The ideal candidate will work within a team of talented professionals who create and deliver services and programs through partnerships with other nonprofit organizations, government agencies, foundations and corporate entities.
Primary responsibilities of this position include ensuring the timely completion of programmatic deliverables including reports to government and foundation funders; coordinating the work of graduate assistants, volunteers, and research fellows assigned to the division, and assisting with evaluation and research projects. The Program Associate will work closely with the Director of Housing and Community Development and the division's Program Managers to advance the strategic direction of NUL's "Economic Empowerment Agenda", to build and maintain relationships with grassroots groups and national organizations engaged in community development, to develop new program initiatives and coordinate projects, and to contribute to an ongoing fundraising strategy.
•Assist Program Managers with preparation of grant requests, funder reports, and other correspondence as necessary;
•Assist with managing Alliance for Stabilizing our Communities grant, including reporting internal and external program updates and correspondence with sub-grantees.
•Manage database, track reports, and conduct follow-up with affiliates;
•Assist program managers with providing technical assistance to affiliates on reporting and housing program management;
•Assist with administration and monitoring of private grants;
•Assist with data monitoring, analysis and trend tracking;
•Assist with building and maintaining databases;
•Manage and maintain records, evaluations, resource materials and all other documents related to housing programs, particularly NUL’s federal contracts;
•Assist with identifying affiliates who demonstrate effective partnering, management, civic engagement and advocacy services;
•Assist with other projects as necessary.
•Bachelor’s degree required.
•Experience working at a housing counseling agency strongly preferred;
•Education and experience in Urban Planning desirable;
•Prior experience with building data base and data management strongly preferred;
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
•Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task well;
•Self-starter with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team;
•Must possess a high degree of proficiency with Microsoft office including Word, excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook
•Strong interpersonal skills
