GenerationOn is one of four business units at Points of Light that makes up the Points of Light family of Brands. It is the national youth engagement arm of Points of Light.
Position Summary: generationOn, the youth division of Points of Light, seeks a Vice President for Development to lead fundraising efforts for corporate, individual, governmental, and private foundation philanthropy. Reporting to the Executive Director of generationOn with strong integration to Points of Light Chief Development Officer, he/she will lead prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. He/she will also be responsible for a portfolio of donors, will be responsible for the creation and execution of all major fundraising campaigns and special events for generationOn, and should be prepared to help lead fundraising efforts for all youth focused activities at Points of Light over time. Working closely with the Executive Director of generationOn, the Chief Development Officer of Points of Light and the President of Action Networks, the generationOn VP for Development will oversee a team of two and lead fundraising initiatives and strategies to build, enhance and diversify revenue goals and opportunities at generationOn. He/she will coordinate and collaborate with Points of Light's development staff on the creation and management of prospect pipelines and on the execution of the cultivation cycle.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic, sophisticated, entrepreneurial, experienced fundraising executive who is passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of the development function of generationOn in all areas - corporate, foundation and individual giving.
Location of Position: New York or Atlanta with a preference of New York

Designs the structure for successful annual revenue goal of approximately four million dollars garnered from corporations, individual, foundation, and government funding campaigns Creates and implements the year-end appeal Builds corporate interest in issue focused engagement campaigns Develops and delivers pitches for national programs, trainings and on the ground projects Develops and executes online giving strategies, special event and recognition opportunities, and highly individualized direct solicitations Leads a board giving solicitation campaign in conjunction with the Chief Development Officer at Points of Light and Executive Director of generationOn Supports the Executive Office with task management, briefing documents for major donor meetings, and meets with and cultivates new individual donors Board Relations and Partnerships
Works closely with and engages the generationOn Advisory Board, Points of Light national Board members and volunteers committed to the development and stewardship of generationOn’s mission
Build and strengthens strategic alliances in the community on a local, national and global scale Staff Management
Manages and coaches the Development team toward excellent performance, professionalism, achievement of revenue goals, collaboration, innovation, and professional growth Ensures agency values are consistently upheld within the team
Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree a plus. Seven to ten years of fundraising and management experience preferably with a youth or service focus Successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting major individual and institutional donors Successful track record of identifying, cultivating and closing large scale corporate and foundation gifts Outstanding communication skills, articulate and persuasive, with well-honed relationship-building skills Excellent research, prospecting and special event skills Superior written and verbal communication skills Excellent computer skills, including database management – specific understanding of and experience with Salesforce a plus Able to travel domestically, 10 - 20%, regular travel to headquarters offices expected Familiarity with the New York City philanthropic community Experience in national or international organizations is a plus Extensive knowledge of core aspects of fundraising, communications, and marketing Highly proficient at creating proposals, writing grants and concept papers Highly experienced in packaging and selling programs for both corporate and foundation funders Must be organized, creative, pro-active, detail- oriented, and strong ability to prioritize with superior time management and troubleshooting skills A commitment to youth, service and the mission of generationOn A high degree of personal initiative with the desire and ability to meet aggressive revenue goals An entrepreneurial spirit and creative approach to strategy development An ability to thrive in an environment characterized by significant growth Ability to work in a highly team-oriented culture, with a “no job is too big or too small” approach Bright and creative with an executive presence and style to represent the organization to multiple constituents
