Ariva is seeking a new Executive Director
Ariva, located in the South Bronx, is a highly respected nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering low-wealth New Yorkers with tools and resources so they can make informed choices and achieve economic stability. We carry out our mission by delivering free tax preparation, financial education, asset building and related services. We are seeking a self-motivated, strategic leader for our new Executive Director. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate leader to make a positive impact at a growing, fast-paced organization.
Ariva has served more than 44,000 clients since our inception in 2003 and returned more than $69 million in tax refunds to our clients. We are one of five organizations nationwide selected to deliver SaveUSA, a match savings program offering a 50 percent match on a portion of tax refund savings if clients save for one year. Ariva's financial education workshops boast a 100 percent client satisfaction rate.
Our agency has an annual budget of approximately $600,000 and receives donated space for its main office and program sites. Ariva has a year-round full-time staff of six, five part-time staff, plus 20 part-time seasonal workers during the tax season. In addition, Ariva leverages the help of more than 200 volunteers who assist in program delivery. Ariva has a supportive and engaged Board who provide Ariva with time, oversight and financial support.
•Provide vision and strategic leadership to ensure Ariva succeeds in its mission to promote economic stability for low wealth New Yorkers.
•Lead and implement fundraising activities, including identifying new funding sources, maintaining close relationships with foundations, individuals, corporate donors, and government agencies, drafting grant reports and proposals and managing events.
•Represent the organization in the community, build partnerships and expand Ariva’s network, and advocate on behalf of Ariva and its constituents. Function as the external face of the organization.
•Oversee the operations of Ariva programs, from program development through evaluation. Coordinate Ariva’s several tax sites. Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence and achievement of grant deliverables, changing strategy if needed.
•Manage, support and develop staff.
•Support the Board of Directors.
•A Master’s degree in nonprofit management, policy, human services or a related field is preferable.
•A demonstrated record of leadership and success in strategic planning and attention to detail, organizational development and problem solving.
•Well organized with a demonstrated ability to multi-task.
•At least 5-7 years of increasingly responsible leadership experience in the social service sector or similar experience.
•Enthusiastic and persuasive, with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
•Proven development skills in building successful partnerships and developing new funding sources and initiatives.
•Experience with writing successful grant proposals.
•Strong fiscal skills with experience in creating and controlling operating and program budgets of comparable size or greater.
•Strong interpersonal and managerial skills necessary to maintaining and developing successful professional relationships.
•Working knowledge of technology used in programs and fundraising. Experience working with The Foundation Center; software related to donor databases/fundraising databases, Quickbooks.
