Program Overview: Since 1893, Henry Street has delivered the most effective, compassionate and comprehensive services possible to residents of the Lower East Side. As a multifaceted not-for-profit, Henry Street provides innovative social services, arts programs and healthcare services from 17 locations throughout the Lower East Side. Building upon its legacy for innovation and effective programming, Henry Street has grown to offer more than 50 different programs, currently making it one of the most comprehensive settlement house in New York City, as well as one of the City's largest social service agencies. Henry Street is governed by a 45-member Board of Directors and is supported by government grants and contracts, as well as foundation, corporate and individual support.

The Volunteer Manager position is part of the Development and External Affairs team, which includes institutional and individual fundraising; policy, advocacy, and government relations; and volunteer initiatives.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree required
• Outstanding writing/editing skills with a grant/report writing background
• Strong organization and event planning skills
• Strong management skills
• Ability to build strategic relationships and give presentations to large groups
• Ability to assess the quality of the program and develop enhancements as needed
• Ability to understand the role of volunteerism as a tier of a larger organizational corporate engagement strategy
• Ability to work with diverse internal and external stakeholders
• Overall flexibility and ability to work under pressure
• Familiarity with social service programs
• Proficiency in relevant computer applications such as the donor databases, Excel, etc.

Responsibilities:
• Provide overall leadership for Henry Street Settlement (HSS) volunteer program
• Collaborate with Executive Staff to determine strategic direction of the program, and partnerships and materials needed to achieve overarching strategic goals
• Develop and maintain excellent internal and external partnerships and relationships
• Reach out strategically to maintain and build new volunteer relationships with existing and targeted organizations, individuals and funders
• Manage budget for volunteer department
• Build and refresh curriculum of year-round volunteer projects appropriate to program goals
• Maintain and refresh list of volunteer opportunities across the agency and prepare for presentation to funders/companies
• Coordinate with the Volunteer Program Associate to ensure proper implementation of volunteer project planning, orientation, project execution, documentation, and follow up
• Provide supervision, with Volunteer Program Associate, on large multi-site projects
• Ensure feedback is collected from all parties involved in volunteer activities, including volunteers, staff, and clients through written reports, testimonial and verbal comments
• Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to acknowledge strengths and successes, ensure effectiveness, and recommend changes if appropriate
• Maintain accurate and complete records and activity reports on volunteer participation
• Strategize with senior staff to leverage volunteer relationships for individual giving, sponsorship opportunities and special events
• Handle all writing related to volunteer program, including grants/reports to funders; oversee the issuance of volunteer acknowledgement letters
• Work with marketing staff to publicize volunteer events and opportunities, and to create marketing and recognition materials
• Organize and manage appropriate volunteer recognition, including annual event
• Oversee Individual Volunteer Program, including evaluating needs across the agency, providing strategic oversight to recruitment and placement, and managing the recruitment of mentors to meet program goals
• Manage the daily workload of the Volunteer Program Associate
• Manage in-kind donation program including: maintaining database of in-kind needs across HSS, strategically solicit in-kind donations to meet agency needs, and coordinating with the Volunteer Program Associate to track donations, respond to inquiries, facilitate donation pick up/drop offs, donation distribution, etc.
• Provide leadership and coordinate working with programs, development deputies, marketing and executive office to identify and package corporate sponsorship program
• Ensure sponsorship deliverables are met
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
