Division/Work Unit: Cranes & Derricks The Department of Buildings oversees a variety of construction activities throughout the City of New York to ensure safe and lawful building practices. We are seeking highly skilled technical experts in several high risk public safety areas. These experts will monitor a unit comprised of engineers, architects and inspectors responsible for promoting construction development while ensuring public safety. The selected candidate will report to the Assistant Commissioner of Engineering and Emergency Operations, and will be responsible for: · Responding to field emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week · Improving the Departments responses to incidents and accidents · Being the authority in the field and serving as incident commander as required · Serving as interagency liaison as required · Coordinating with utilities and the Bureau of Development on problem sites · Assessing current protocols and proactively promoting safer construction practices · Ensuring the implementation of standard procedures that safeguard public safety · Providing technical advice to senior management and public entities · Ensuring compliance with various codes, rules and regulations · Producing reports for senior management regarding improvements to safety practices · Making recommendations for changes to the Construction Codes consistent with improved safety practices Minimum Qualification Requirements A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer is required. In addition, candidates must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical or air pollution control engineering work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative engineer. Preferred Skills · Candidates must possess a valid license in Mechanical or Structural Engineering and demonstrate superior knowledge of ASME/ANSI B30 crane standards, OSHA crane regulations, EN13001- 2, EN14439, ISO9000/9001, NCCCO and CIC certification programs, manufacturer equipment specifications and the NYC Construction Codes and Zoning Resolution. · Certified in National Incident Management System (NIMS) · Certified in City Incident Management System (CIMS) To Apply For Non-City/External Candidates: Visit https://a127-jobs.nyc.gov/ and search for the specific Job ID # 120198.
