EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Park Slope Senior Citizens Center is a small 501 (c) 3 non- profit that has served the senior community in Park Slope, Brooklyn, for 40 years. We are seeking a full-time Executive Director.

ROLE:

Manage the day-to-day operation of the senior center. Responsible for budget preparation in conjunction with the agency bookkeeper, food service management, providing supportive services, establishing and maintaining sanitary and safety standards, record keeping, reporting to overhead agencies, and adherence to the Department for the Aging performance standards and guidelines. He/she reports to and works closely with the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning, budgeting and evaluating:
• Develop budget, work plans and annual goals.
• Determine staffing needs.
• Reviews and evaluates delivery of service.
• Work with the Bookkeeper to ensure that all units of service are met and payment from funders is received.

Administration:
• Participate with Executive Committee of the Board in selection and termination of staff.
• Supervise, train and evaluate staff.
• See that service records are maintained and reports submitted on time and accurately to both DFTA and the Board of Directors.
• Participate in DFTA’s training.
• Design and implement procedures for delivery of social services, including case assistance, information and referrals.
• Disseminate updated information to staff regarding changes in the policies and procedures affecting rights and benefits.
• Provide direct services to members, including crisis intervention.
• Oversee proper functioning and upkeep of the physical plant.
• Conduct fund-raising activities in conjunction with the Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors.
• Conduct public relations activities by attending local, citywide meetings.
• Establish and maintain relationships with other community organizations.
• Represent agency in community and interagency activities.

Safety and Code Compliance:
• Establish and maintain safety and sanitary procedures.
• Ensure compliance with Building, Fire and Health Department codes.
• Hold regular fire drills.
• Train staff in first aid and emergency procedures.
• Must have or get a valid Food Protection Certificate.

Programming and Social Services:
• Ensure the production and delivery of a nutritional hot lunch to members.
• Maintain a program that meets the nutritional, emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of the elderly.
• In conjunction with the Assistant Director he/she is responsible for the production of the required recreation and education units and social services.

BACKUP PLAN:

In the absence of the Director the Assistant Director will assume his/her responsibilities.

Qualifications:
QULAIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in Social work, Gerontology of Human Services field with at least one year supervisory or administrative experiences preferably with the elderly. OR Bachelor’s degree with three years experience in social service or human services field with one year supervisory or administrative experience preferably with the elderly.

Must have excellent organizational, supervisory, communication and computer skills.

Preferred:
Experience with the NYC Department of Aging standards and policies a plus.
