Position Overview The Grants and Foundation Relations Manager advances partnerships with government, corporate and foundation donors (and prospective donors) through a proactive process of identifying, initiating, and managing relationships and all aspects of the grant process. The Manager focuses on large fundraising opportunities ($100,000 or more) and seeks to understand the needs and priorities of the prospective/current entities to align the priorities of Success Academy. Applying a team approach, the Manager engages senior administrators, educators and volunteers, as appropriate, to deepen strong, lasting, institutional commitments to Success Academy.
We are seeking an ambitious Grants Manager to join our deadline- driven development team. S/he should have the ability to hit the ground running within a forward driving, entrepreneurial, education reform organization seeking to obliterate the achievement gap in New York City.
The Grants and Foundation Relations Manager reports to, and works closely with the Managing Director of Development.
*Understand the mission of Success Academy Charter Schools and use that knowledge to determine which grants to pursue and how to draft the message
*Prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals for government, foundation, and corporate support
*Brief executives for meetings with key stakeholders and participate as needed
*Research and identify new government, foundation and corporate funding streams while renewing and negotiating existing grants and contracts
*Engage program officers at funding organizations to support proposals for specific projects, programs and general operations
*Work closely with colleagues to learn about projects that could be funded through grants
*Review and revise the budgets of projects seeking funding
*Maintain close contact with organizations during their review of a submitted grant application
*Maintain and implement a calendar of communications, cultivation and stewardship activities
*Ensure compliance with all grant/contract reporting processes
*Encourage institutional liasions to visit Success Academy and participate in events and activities as appropriate
*Maintain current records in database, including grant tracking and reporting
*Collaborate with finance, external affairs, operations, legal and other departments to ensure compliance
*Oversee and improve all policies and standards for external/internal communications, written proposal process, and funder relationship cycle
*Coordinate grants management processes including the oversight of pre-award data management, multi-year payments and sub grants, and post-award data management, including reporting and stewardship
*Upload all relevant documents to shared drives and the fundraising database
*Perform special projects as required
*Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years' experience preferably in a grants management function, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
*Strong personal initiative and self-motivation skills with a good dose of humility and willingness to go the extra mile
*Ability to thrive in a complex and dynamic environment
*Strong interpersonal skills, judgment and tact; ability to work with, and command the respect and confidence of internal and external constituencies
Knowledge and Skills
*Demonstrated track record in government, foundation and corporate grant writing, annual planning, donor services
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confidence in communicating across a wide variety of platforms, including electronic, written, and in-person to articulate clear, structured and persuasive solicitations and related correspondence, often signed by CEO or other senior staff
*Experience developing a strategic and comprehensive fundraising plan and executing against the plan
*Detail-oriented and comfortable with data intensive analysis; ability to analyze complex data and draw meaningful conclusions
*Strong editing skills with attention to detail and fact checking
*Ability to meet deadlines
*Knowledge of fundraising information sources and familiarity with research techniques for prospect research
*Computer skills - Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel and database management
