Senior Vice President Industry Transformation Team

The Senior Vice President (SVP) is the head of the Industry Transformation Teams (ITT) Department, responsible for identifying and implementing economic development intiatives which engage private sector leadership from key strategic industries of New York City. The ITT Department is part of the Center for Economic Transformation at NYCEDC. The SVP oversees the department's full portfolio of projects. The SVP will be responsible for managing a team of approximately 25 staff members. Working with the division heads of the Center for Economic Transformation, he/she develops and executes the strategic direction for this dynamic and diverse department allowing ITT to maintain current excellence and support expansion. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to advance an innovative and holistic approach to economic transformation by leveraging the current team and track record taking it to the next level of impact and influence. A member of NYCEDC's senior management team, his/her specific responsibilities include overseeing the structuring of strategy studies; implementation of the project portfolio; leading key meetings with senior executive clients, and with the private sector; and providing coaching and support for technical and interpersonal skill development of staff.


•Provide overall managementfor the department and oversee the group's portfolio (60 projects)
•Provide direction and management to project teams in framing problems and identifying key issues/questions at the beginning of industry studies
•Provide direction for development of project work plans, including study scope, timelines, specific analyses to be completed, individual responsibilities
•Oversee project teams, and the work of external consultants, as they conduct independent research and expert interviews, data gathering and analysis, and financial modeling.
•Provide direction in development of project recommendations, ensuring they are feasible impactful, and coordindated.
•Oversee implementation of major programs including Media NYC 2020, Entrepreneurship and Incubator Networks, public-private investment funds.
•Oversee creation of and deliver PowerPoint presentations or memos for key stakeholders (e.g. EDC senior staff, City Hall, external partners)
•Build and maintain relationships with key private sector stakeholders at C-level, including organizing a program of 'CEO roundtable' convenings in the context of strategic industry studies
•Direct, motivate and coach staff at all level
•Promote a collaborative, high performing organizational culture that fosters passion for the mission, program excellence, teamwork, and a shared purpose
•As needed, serve as spokesperson, representative, and ambassador of the department to a wide variety of constituencies

•Enterprising,resourceful, organized and results oriented

•Master's Degree or equivalent; MBA or similar
•8+yrs work experience, of which 4-5yrs management consulting or other similar strategic leadership experience in a demanding analytic environment
•Demonstrated experience working with senior private sector stakeholders
•Demonstrated proactive communication skills, including the ability to deploy tact and diplomacy in pursuit of results
•Demonstrated interest or experience in economic development, urban infrastructure, real estate, and/or public policy issues
•Knowledge of New York City, State and Federal government; Knowledge of issues facing New York City is a plus

•Demonstrated ability to use quantitative analysis to achieve strategic insights
•Clear understanding of the key strategic drivers of private sector partners
•Proven ability to bring creative solutions to bear on projects and remove roadblocks
•Strong listener with a relentless pursuit of program excellence and results

•Experience managing a large portfolio of projects and prioritizing effectively
•Demonstrates a drive to results and accountability, and foster the same in others
•Shows an ability to quickly focus on pragmatic solutions, and negotiate with multiple partners to realize those.
•Has developed and sustained networks of senior stakeholders.

Financial Acumen
•Demonstrates an understanding of financing and loans
•Comfort building and reading financial model
•Experience in setting and managing a significant department budget

People and Management
•Proven ability to attract, hire and retain staff members
•Experience developing and coaching staff, including performance management
•Has fostered effective teamwork in groups of high potential individuals
•Can articulate strategy, and provide ongoing direction to implement that strategy
