Executive Director Roles and Responsibilities
Oversee all MLRC activities including day- to-day operations and long-range strategic initiatives.
Supervise and develop a staff of seven lawyers and managers at MLRC's headquarters in New York.
Identify key issues of interest to members, develop programs and initiatives and serve as the MLRC's primary spokesperson.
Oversee all publications, conferences and events, including selecting topics and participants.
Maintain and expand the membership of the MLRC and the Defense Counsel Section and the sponsorship of conferences.
Oversee the budget and administrative matters.
Oversee the MLRC Institute, a non-profit organization which engages in educational programs about the press.
Report to the MLRC Board of Directors.
Experience and Qualifications
• A JD degree with a minimum of ten years of legal practice, including representation of media companies; or a minimum of ten years’ experience at a traditional or new media company, including managerial responsibilities.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Successful managerial experience and proven organizational skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Fundraising experience is a plus.

The Media Law Resource Center (MLRC), founded in 1980, is the leading professional association for media organizations and their lawyers. It provides its members with a wide range of resources, including: daily updates on legal, regulatory and legislative developments; numerous publications; legal and policy analysis; litigation practice guides; and national and international media law conferences. MLRC has over 120 media company members. The MLRC Defense Counsel Section includes over 200 law firms which represent media clients.
MLRC publications include the MLRC MediaLawDaily, the monthly MediaLawLetter, the tri-annual MLRC Bulletin and three annual volumes of 50-State Surveys on Libel, Privacy and Employment. MLRC hosts a biennial Medial Law conference in Virginia and a biennial London Conference focusing on international developments. MLRC co-sponsors two annual conferences in California, focused on legal issues in Entertainment and Media and on Digital Media, and an annual conference in Miami on Hispanic Media. Each November, MLRC hosts an annual fundraising dinner for more than 600 participants. MLRC’s numerous Committees and Task Forces meet regularly to discuss and produce resource materials with respect to particular practice areas.
