NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS) is a premier children's services agency dedicated to ensuring the safety of NYC's 1.8 million children and strengthening its families.
ACS is seeking a dynamic and outstanding Deputy Commissioner (D/C) for the Division of Communication and Community Affairs (CCA).
The DC of CCA will manage all programs in the Division. This includes the Offices of Communications, Intergovernmental Affairs, Interagency Affairs and the Interactive Media Group. The candidate will have the primary responsibility for managing the communications risks and opportunities of the agency, both internally and externally, communicating to a wide range of stakeholders.
The DC will oversee the administrative direction, restructuring and efficient coordination of Communication and Community Affairs. Advise the Commissioner on emerging operational issues. Represent the Commissioner in meetings with Federal, State and City officials and, local and national stakeholders who include but are not limited to community residents, clergy, and other faith-based leaders, and executive directors of community-based organizations.
The DC will prepare speeches for Commissioner and instruct senior staff on public speaking techniques; Arrange large-scale events to highlight issues such as adoption, foster care, child abuse prevention and mentoring; Oversee ACS' content on internal and external internet sites, updating news stories and ensuring content is up to date; Coordinate ACS' communications with the Mayor's Press Office and other City agencies to ensure continuity of messaging; Respond to press inquiries on daily deadlines and frequently on complex issues, including the Agency's handling of child fatalities and injuries; Lead and advise division head on issues relating to strategic planning and the formulation of policy and advising the Commissioner accordingly; Coordinate all the areas within Communication and Community Affairs to ensure effective and timely responses to ACS initiatives and ongoing strategic plans; And manage all internal/external communications for ACS, New York City's $2.6 billion, 6,000+ employee child welfare/juvenile justice agency.
PREFERRED SKILLS: Strong executive and collaborative leadership style; strong negotiating skills; familiarity with government and the systems used throughout the City of New York; excellent communication skills and commitment to customer service, innovation and the initiative to make large public systems function effectively.
