Volunteers of Legal Service

Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) seeks a full- time Office Manager. VOLS' mission is to leverage the good will, resources, and talents of some of New York City's best law firms to provide pro bono legal services to the city's neediest residents. Each year, over 800 volunteer attorneys from 40 law firms provide legal assistance to more than 3,000 low-income New Yorkers through our projects.

The Office Manager will play the crucial role of building and maintaining our organization's administrative backbone so that our expert staff can focus on enabling volunteer lawyers to provide high-quality legal assistance to people in need.

The Office Manager's responsibilities will include:

• Continually finding ways to decrease our costs, improve our efficiency, and strengthen support for our efforts to provide legal assistance to low-income New Yorkers
• Assisting with all administrative aspects of fundraising and contract-reporting, including data collection and organization
• Managing our supplies and office machines and acting as a liaison with our vendors, including our off-site tech support.
• Providing administrative support to the Executive Director and Associate Director
• Preparing for meetings, presentations, and trainings
• Overseeing our employee benefits
• Assisting with the creation and maintenance of office policies and procedures
• Assisting with content management for our website, and developing our use of social media to advance our mission


• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• At least two years of work experience in a similar position
• Excellent computer skills, including expertise in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and social media. Experience using donor-management software is a plus.
• Excellent personal organization. Punctuality and an ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks are absolutely essential to this position.
• Ability to communicate politely and professionally with staff, volunteers, Board members, and the public.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Spanish is a plus.
