The ASPCA is experiencing growth across the organization and looking for experienced Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT's) in several of our program groups. Spay/Neuter Operations (SNO):

The National Spay/Neuter Project (NSNP) Licensed Veterinary Technician is a trained and licensed professional with a strong work ethic and commitment to the spay/neuter mission. This position is part of a team of veterinary professionals who travel around NYC and nationwide to train small animal welfare groups to perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter in a variety of settings. This person is comfortable working in mobile, in-clinic and MASH style spay/neuter clinics.

Licensed Veterinary Technician Educator (SNO)

The Licensed Veterinary Technician Educator has the technical skills, career experience and professionalism to be part of a leadership team. This LVT has extensive experience with perioperative support and is able to travel up to 50% of the time. While not traveling and training, the LVT educator works as part of the ASPCA's Spay/Neuter Operations (SNO) team, in all 5 boroughs of New York City, on mobile clinics, in stationary and MASH clinics. The LVT Educator also participates in the training of other SNO staff members and in mock training with other members of the NSNP team.

Licensed Veterinary Technician - (SNO)

This LVT is responsible for the daily care of surgery patients, management, and administration of anesthetic/analgesic agents and other medications. The incumbent in this position must also handle client education, and (in consult with the Veterinarian) flow of animals through the spay/neuter clinic.

The position works primarily out of our stationary facility in Glendale, NY but also in any of our other high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter settings such as our Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinics (MSNCs), in-clinic clinics or MASH clinic events.

Animal Rehabilitation Center - ASPCA Animal Hospital (ARC AAH)

The goal of the AAH ARC (Animal Rehabilitation Center) is to rehabilitate cruelty cases admitted through ASPCA's HLE/NYPD, FIR, and CIA units, and prepare as many of these animals as possible for Adoption upon legal release. We manage these cases from a holistic standpoint - addressing their medical, behavior, and enrichment needs intensively and simultaneously, to give them the best chance to heal from a life time of physical and emotional abuse. The members of the ARC Team are crucial players in the patients' rehabilitation process and will be involved in every step of their care along the way to a healthy outcome.

Licensed Veterinary Technician - ARC (AAH Department)

The ARC Veterinary Technician is a crucial component of our team and the position employs knowledge in shelter and rehabilitation medicine, triage, emergency and critical care, and forensic work and will play role as "first responder" in early recognition of health issues or outbreaks of animals in our shelter. This LVT must have a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology and proficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses. They must be able to successfully restrain animals, complete clinical laboratory tests, use multiple radiology techniques, administer and monitor animals under anesthesia, assist in procedures, recovery and also be experienced in safely handling challenging and fractious animals.

Additional Information:

• These are full-time positions, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Weekends may be required. Position may require occasional flexibility and occasional overtime.

Education and Qualifications:

• Must have graduated from accredited school of veterinary science technology (2 or 4 year program).
• Must have current New York State Veterinary Technician License.


• Must have 3-plus years working as Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

• Must speak fluent English. Bilingual (fluent in English and Spanish) is a plus.
• Must possess excellent animal handling skills with cats and dogs, as well as willingness to further train in this area.
•Disaster response training a plus.
•Animal behavior training a plus.
• Must possess strong leadership skills
• Must possess excellent customer service skills.
• Must possess basic computer skills, including Excel, Microsoft Office and ImproMed.
• Must be able to lift 40-plus pounds.
• Must possess the ability to work standing for 10-plus hours.
• Must possess the ability to work independently and as part of team.
• Must possess the ability to work efficiently and calmly under challenging conditions.
• Maintain open mind regarding changes and be willing to learn, implement, and teach new protocols.
• Must have strong interest in animal welfare.
• Know basic veterinary medical concepts, including, but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks.
• Work well both independently and cooperatively as part of team.
• Remain composed while working in fast-paced environment.
• Ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed as events of the day change with patient care and needs.
