BACKGROUND: Win is a vibrant, dynamic and growing $30 million organization that serves 9,000 homeless women and their children in NYC each year. Initially founded in a midtown Manhattan church, Win opened its doors in 1983 as a shelter for a small group of homeless women and their children.
Today, Win’s vision is to break the cycle of homelessness and transform the lives of NYC homeless women and their children by providing the housing, programs and services they need to succeed on their own. Win helps homeless families transform their lives through a progressive and holistic approach that doesn’t provide a handout, but a way out. For more information please visit winnyc.org.
Win is guided by its comprehensive vision and strategy called the “Way to Win”. The journey begins within the over 1,000 housing units Win operates across NYC. With more than 800 units in eight shelters plus additional supportive apartment units in Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn, Win provides families with a simple but safe, quiet, clean and private space where they can begin to put their lives back together. More than 3,300 people—2,000 of whom are children—wake up in a Win shelter each morning to courageously face their situation and, with Win’s help, work hard to change their future.
