Special Assistant to the Council Member
New York City Council Member Rory Lancman
The office of New York City Councilman Rory Lancman of Queens seeks a special assistant to accompany the Councilman to meetings, events and other functions. A rigorous daily schedule (including many weekends) will begin early and end late in Hillcrest, Queens. The special assistant will receive tremendous exposure to New York politics and work extremely closely with the Councilman, staff and other elected officials; regularly exercise independent judgement to screen, prioritize and respond to calls, e-mails, texts, etc. throughout the day; and manage (but not set) the Councilman's daily schedule.
The ideal candidate has a driver's license, navigates challenging political environments, knows how people and organizations function, anticipates potential problems and devises solutions accordingly, can handle confidential and sensitive information, is passionate and eager to learn about local government, and can multi-task across a range of mobile technology platforms. Salary is $25k with excellent NYC government benefits.
