Associate Development Officer
American Federation for Aging Research
The American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) is a New York based nonprofit organization whose mission is to support biomedical research on aging (www.afar.org). AFAR was founded in 1981 to fund and nurture talented scientists and physicians and to encourage them to pursue lifelong careers in research focused on aging processes and age-related diseases. Today, three decades later, AFAR has awarded grants totaling approximately $140 million in support of research and the training of new scientists and physicians in aging research and geriatric medicine.
AFAR is seeking a hands-on junior development professional with expertise in fundraising and event planning.
Areas of Responsibility Specifically seeking an individual with 3 – 5 years of general development experience in the non-profit sector. Experience in a grant making; research focused or disease specific organization will be a plus.
Responsibilities will include: General Fundraising; Event Planning; Annual Campaign; Prospect development; Proposal and grant writing; Donor Base management.
Experience and Education Requirement
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record and experience in non-profit development and event planning. The candidate must be a proven communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills and a positive proactive personality with a grasp of both the academic science and research sectors. The ability to work independently as part of a small senior staff will be an asset.
Minimum requirements for qualified candidates:
Excellent organizational skills; 3-5 years’ experience in the field; Capacity to successfully manage projects from start to finish; Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge required; Computer literate; Bachelor’s Degree.
