Associate General Counsel
Single Stop USA
We are a nationally recognized, mission-driven, fast-paced nonprofit (HQ in NYC), passionately dedicated to the eradication of systemic poverty. We are seeking a full-time Associate General Counsel to act a liaison to the Chief Legal Officer on legal, senior management, operational and strategic planning matters, often requiring time- sensitive/highly-confidential research, analysis and counsel.
*Reports to Chief Legal Officer
*Reviews and drafts (as applicable) grant award contracts from funders, contracts with sites, consulting agreements, intellectual property- related agreements, leases, and contracts with third party vendors.
*Assists Program Staff/Regional Directors with the preparation of contracts/renewals;
*Serves as a key point of contact/counsel for SSUSA sites in the contracts/renewals process
*Analyzes SSUSA’s government contracts to ensure full compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.
*Leads compliance-oriented best practices internally, and amongst sites. Proposes improved service offering standards and processes, as applicable.
*Plays a leading role in the implementation, training, and enforcement of SSUSA’s program integrity policies, privacy policies, compliance policies and various employment policies. Participates in organization’s standing committees that relate to same.
*Working in conjunction with SSUSA’s training team, creates protocols and training materials that are issued to organizational and site partners.
*Views all of SSUSA’s relationships – grantor/grantee, vendor/vendee, employer/employee, contractual and other relationships with an eye towards risk management.
*Recommends appropriate language in contracts and other documents to protect against organizational risks.
*Develops a strong understanding of database and reporting tools (i.e., Salesforce).
*Works with the Chief Legal Officer and Program Staff to develop and implement appropriate contract language for SSUSA grantees.
*Assists the Chief Legal Officer in the on-going development of a legal services delivery strategy/model.
*Directs the activities of more junior staff, as applicable
*Other duties as assigned

*4-5 years of professional work experience required (i.e., legal services, law firm, nonprofit, etc.)
*Experience with intellectual property, business contracts, privacy law, employment law and other ‘generalist’ areas is highly preferred
*Finely-honed legal research and general project management skills are preferred
*Experience and commitment to working with low- income families and individuals, as well as professional peers within the nonprofit/public sector – with, at times, predictably limited resources – is advantageous.
*Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required - must be clear, concise and courteous.
*Must be highly collaborative and consultative in nature –ability to work within/across a wide range of professional specialties and levels of management is critical.
*Must be highly organized, highly-productive and detail-oriented.
*High-energy/self-motivated - ability to work in a fast-paced, highly-collaborative and demanding environment while independently establishing priorities and providing objective counsel.
*Must possess the maturity to successfully/efficiently navigate the levels and verticals found within a fast-paced, ‘corporate- like’ culture.
*Must be able to manage multiple/deadline-oriented tasks and search for viable solutions for complex (at times) problems creatively.
*Ability to lead and motivate less experienced staff, interns and volunteers is required.
*Must be willing and able to travel (i.e., less than 25% of the time)
*Experience with databases including data collection and reporting is preferable (i.e., knowledge of Salesforce a plus)
*Must have computer software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
*Employment is conditioned upon successful completion of a background and fingerprint check
*Admission to the NYS Bar, or ability to waive in.
