Position: Community Organizer
*Perform community outreach to unite community residents around issues of importance to them, including affordable housing, social services, education, safety, etc.
*Organize and attend meetings with community residents, elected officials, law enforcement officials, religious institutions, businesses, and community-based organizations to maintain communication, share ideas, and ensure engagement.
*Recruit residents to attend community meetings, events, and demonstrations as the need arises.
*Ensure engagement and leadership development of low and moderate income residents in campaigns that the organization either leads and/or is formally engaged in to strengthen tenant protections and rent stabilization.
*Assist in the creation of community action campaigns
*Represent the organization on city, state, and national coalitions and working groups engaged in efforts relevant to the organizations' mission and work.
*Assist in developing overall organizing strategy; participate directly in implementation of strategy through organizing; mobilize community residents for demonstrations, rallies and forums; advocate on behalf of low-income or no-income tenants before social or governmental agencies or on behalf of the low-income tenant population in general.
•Bachelors degree preferred
•Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
•2+ years experience in community organizing
•Professional presentation and demeanor at all times throughout the workday and whenever representing the organization.
•A flexible schedule that allows work during evenings and weekends.
•Must be passionate about the company’s mission
•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
•Must possess a positive attitude, a sense of urgency and the ability to smile under all circumstances.
•Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
•Ability to lead and motivate community residents
•Effectively convey ideas, images and goals to a diverse group of personalities.
•Ability to successfully resolve conflicts
•Outgoing personality with a positive attitude
•Punctuality, eagerness to help community residents, and a friendly demeanor.
•Ability to successfully pass a back ground check.

Southside United HDFC, better known as "Los Sures®", is a community-based, non-profit organization that has served as an integral part in rebuilding the South Side of Williamsburg, Brooklyn for over 40 years. Los Sures has undertaken large-scale rehabilitation of many buildings, allowing families and individuals to live comfortably and creating an aesthetically pleasing neighborhood. Additionally, the organization provides a multitude of much-needed services, including a senior center and a food pantry.
