Legislative & Community Analyst
New York State Senator
New York City-based State Senator seeks a Legislative & Community Analyst who will provide legislative and research support to senior policy staff and local representation on behalf of the Senator. S/he will report to the Senior Legislative & Community Analyst on community and administrative matters and the Policy Director on legislative issues.
Draft and/review written materials including local community reports, official testimony, correspondence with government agencies and constituents, and materials distributed internally to staff
Conduct research, compile requested information, and draft related papers, memos, etc., enjoying wide discretion within areas of competence and expertise
Attend community board and other district meetings, hearings, press conferences, public forum discussions, etc., serving as the Senator’s representative at such events, and memorialize in writing the issues covered at such events
Remain current on the Senator’s legislative and policy agenda, and serve as a resource regarding those issues for the local community and staff
Assist in the formulation of legislative strategy and in other specific policy formation processes
Provide basic administrative support to senior staff
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree preferred or commensurate experience
0-3 years’ experience in related field, i.e. campaigns, or legislation strongly preferred
Strong writing ability
Passion for public service required
Knowledge of the legislative and policy development processes
Ability to conduct thorough research and draft related work product, track legislation, and memorialize in writing events attended such as community board meetings, hearings, press conferences, etc.
Basic understanding of the government of New York State and City
Ability to multi-task, working in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
Full competencies in the Microsoft Office Suite.
