Housing Research Intern
The Housing Research Intern will work with the housing development and research and evaluation teams on a unique and comprehensive affordable housing analysis project. The intern will assist in a variety of data collection, entry, management, and analysis assignments. By using quantitative techniques to analyze data and extrapolate findings, the intern will participate in a research project to better understand the impact affordable housing has on low income tenants and their life outcomes. The intern will receive supportive supervision to put data and research techniques into practice.
•Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Housing Development, input tenant data into WHEDco’s internal database system
•Assist in cleaning data
•Work with the Assistant Director of Housing Development and Director of Research, Policy and Evaluation to analyze and interpret data
•Contribute to the development of written reports by preparing tables, charts, and graphs to visually communicate data
•Skilled in preparing data sets for analysis, including cleaning, aggregating, and disaggregating data for large data sets
•Ability to learn new software programs quickly
•Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, SPSS
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
•High-levels of professionalism, discretion, and maturity in dealing with confidential information.
•Experience drafting and revising research papers and articles, either independently or as part of a team
•Undergraduate or graduate student currently pursuing a degree in urban planning, public policy, sociology, economics, or similar fields.
This is an unpaid internship, but is an excellent opportunity to employ research skills on a research project. Flexible scheduling, although we request a minimum of 20 hours per week.
