Councilmember Brad Lander
The Communications Liaison for New York City Councilmember Brad Lander will be responsible for overseeing the Councilmember's communications program (both in the district and citywide) and managing outreach for the office's events and community organizing campaigns.
-Work with the Council Member and Chief of Staff to shape and implement communications strategy.
-Manage the office’s press work, including: Develop strong working relationship with reporters and editors;Plan press conferences, draft and distribute press releases and statements, and follow up with media for most effective coverage; Place stories and identify other communications opportunities that advance the goals of the Council Member; Work with the Council Member to draft and place Op-Eds.
-Manage the office’s online communications work, including; Draft and send regular (approx. weekly) blast e-mails, and oversee the database of addressees;Manage and post content to the Council Members’ web-site;Assist with Twitter, Facebook, and social networking;Organize online campaigns and actions.
-Draft content for bi-annual newsletters.
-Monitor relevant citywide and local media, list-serves, blogs, and community bulletin boards on relevant issues.
-Work with the District Director on community outreach for all office events, including Participatory Budgeting events, community meetings, town halls, annual PTA 5k run, etc.
-Occasionally serving as a representative for the Councilmember at community events and meetings.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of communications experience. Experience in New York City preferred. Candidates must be able to multi-task, work independently and work in a constantly changing environment. Occasional evenings or weekends required.
