Description
The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a qualified applicant who is motivated, energetic and looking for an opportunity to expand their skills. The Senior Accountant, will perform professional accounting work, including auditing, analyzing and verifying financial records and reports, preparing financial and statistical reports providing information to Association staff and reconciling general ledger accounts. In addition, this position will assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports, budgets and year-end and agency audits.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledgers/subsidiary accounts.
• Reconcile monthly accounts receivable and accounts payables.
• Conduct special studies. Analyze and recommend accounting methods and procedures.
• Prepare related financial reports for the monthly and yearly book closings.
• Coordinate with managers and staff to research and resolve accounting issues.
• Evaluate bank reconciliations to identify errors and recommend corrective action.
• Prepare audit schedules for external auditors.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• Three to five years non-profit accounting experience; knowledge of GAAP is necessary.
• Proven ability to be proactive with excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and database spreadsheets; experience with Oracle a plus.
