Description
Goddard Riverside Community Center, a well-established social service agency on the Upper Westside of Manhattan seeks a trainer-counselor for its Options Institute, an innovative training program for college access counselors. Options Institute's goal is to increase the number of underrepresented young people who gain access to and earn quality post-secondary degrees by augmenting the ability of school and nonprofit staff to provide college access and success services to underrepresented young people through training initiatives.
Responsibilities:
The trainer-counsel will be responsible to facilitate 60 or more workshops for college advisor professionals on topics ranging from good fit colleges, to financial aid to transition to college. The trainer-counsel will also manage a small case load of high school students on college access. Additional responsibilities include: •Set-up and break-down of training workshops. Assist with materials preparation as necessary. •Prepare and deliver presentations at NYS and national conferences. •Participate in data review meeting to assess and improve training outcomes.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree •Minimum 3 years recent experience counseling college applicants. •Familiarity with college admissions and financial aid application processes •Knowledge of adult learning theory •Strong facilitation skills •Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) •Demonstrated ability to work on a team and be adaptable. •Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Preferred:
Experience working with low income or underrepresented populations preferred. School based experience a plus.
Prior training experience a plus.
