Career Development Program Associate

Description
Chhaya seeks an experienced full time Career Development Program Associate to be part of its Economic Development program. The program associate will work with South Asian and other communities in New York City to enroll them in job training programs, increase and retain competitive employment, and develop the skills for economic self sufficiency. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, organized individual who is able to multi-task and prioritize to achieve effective results. Training will be provided.
Responsibilities:
•Overall coordination of Chhaya’s educational and counseling program on workforce development, internally and with partners;
•Work with clients one-on-one on all facets of job training to prepare them for a career advancement;
•Plan and implement ESOL classes;
•Conduct professional development trainings on topics which includes resume writing and interviewing skills;
•Create, maintain and update client files on a regular basis;
•Develop and access employment opportunities through ongoing job development activities;
•Develop educational and promotional materials and assist with outreach to the South Asian and other communities;
•Assist with the preparation of monthly program reports and other program related tasks;
Qualifications:
•Experience in workforce development and career counseling with immigrant communities on financial justice issues preferred;
•One year experience in implementing ESOL classes and service delivery programs strongly preferred;
•Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to perform complex tasks with limited supervision;
•Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including excellent writing ability;
•Highly motivated, with a can-do attitude to be able to get a brand new program off the ground;
•Strong bi-lingual skills in English and other South Asian language/s (Bangla, Hindi, Nepali, Punjabi or Urdu) required;
•Commitment to Chhaya’s mission, respect for the work of our nonprofit partners, commitment to providing exemplary service to our clients;
Preferred:
Weekend and evening hours will be required, and compensated for with flexible hours.
Reports to: Chhaya’s Director of Programs
Salary: Competitive salary (ranging $35,000-$38,000 commensurate with experience) plus excellent benefits including, medical and dental benefits, 403b option, TransitChek and generous vacation and holidays.
