Lenox Hill Neighborhood House's Early Childhood Center seeks an LMSW Family Worker: Transitions Specialist who will help families with issues related to transitioning into our program and as they leave for kindergarten. Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York's premier human services providers, is a 118-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services--social, educational, legal, health, housing, mental health, nutritional and fitness--which significantly improve the lives of 20,000 people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. Our award-winning, nationally-recognized Early Childhood Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We provide comprehensive educational and family services to 141 low-income 3- and 4-year-old children and their families. Our holistic approach prepares children for success in elementary school and in life by offering a seamless, age-appropriate curriculum that strengthens language, literacy, motor, socialization and other cognitive skills and integrated Family Services. Our educational curriculum includes art, music, movement, computers, swimming and healthy foods and wellness, among many other components. Our Family Services team, which supports all of the children and families in our Early Childhood Center, includes a staff of four Master's-level social workers reporting to the Family Services Director. Our strengths-based model of family services addresses the strengths and needs of the families and the healthy development of their children. Our staff focus on particular specialty areas including Special Needs; Health, Mental Health and Nutrition; Parent and Community Engagement; and Transitions.
We are seeking a Family Worker: Transitions Specialist to join us who will develop and implement best practices in supporting family transitions and school readiness; create plans that meet the needs of the family as their child transitions from home to our Early Childhood Center, from the 3s classrooms to the 4s classrooms and to Kindergarten after they leave our program; organize school tours, open houses and transition workshops and activities; provide classroom and complementary learning support for children’s social emotional needs during transitions; conduct social services intakes and family needs assessments; conduct home visits; facilitate parent support groups; develop goal setting with families; and participate in monthly interdisciplinary mental health team meetings. This social worker will be primarily responsible for achieving our ambitious outcomes related to transitions for all the children and their families in our Center
The successful candidate will have outstanding experience working with young children and families; a stellar academic career; the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high achieving environment; excellent written and communication skills; the ability to respond sensitively to the needs of our clients; the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and a commitment to achieving excellence on behalf of our families. Spanish proficiency is highly preferred. LMSW (or related degree) is required.
