Description
As one of the flagship sites of our national organization, Public Allies New York is the lead organization of a coalition of nonprofits, public agencies and private partners working together to increase educational and economic opportunities for low income New Yorkers. We do this in two ways: 1) by identifying untapped local talent and developing their leadership skills through a 10-month apprenticeship, and; 2) by partnering with over 50 nonprofit, public and private partners to help expand, improve or enhance their services.

The Program Manager is primarily responsible for building and managing relationships with our partners, coaching apprentices ("Allies"), developing increasingly innovative, impactful and efficient ways of growing our impact.

Responsibilities:
Partner and Community Engagement


• Leverage community relationships and resources (with nonprofits, higher education, government agencies, local businesses and alumni) to advance programmatic and organizational goals
• Outreach new partnerships that align with our impact strategy
• Engage community and organizational partners through communication and activities that build the capacity of the organization, strengthen the network of partners, facilitate linkages and support the work of their Allies
• Maintain ongoing communication with the partner organization supervisors and leadership to ensure they have a clear understanding of the program, adhere to placement expectations and policies, are managing the Allies’ completion of online service documentation, and meet service objectives and outcomes
• Assess the strengths and needs of the sector and actual/potential partners; support partner organizations to develop position descriptions for their Allies with clear objectives and outcomes aimed at building the capacity of the organization
• Evaluate the impact the program on partners, the progress of the Allies in meeting their objectives and our partners’ satisfaction with the program

Leadership coaching:


• Professionally coach Allies in their individual professional and personal development through Individual Development Plans, in/formal one-to-one and group meetings and 360-degree feedback
• Manage relationships with Allies and Partner Organization Supervisors through regular communication to ensure that participants successfully complete the program and position goals are met
• Ensure that Public Allies New York delivers high- quality training and professional development to Allies, Alumni, volunteers and partners
• Assist in Team Service Project development process and coach one team of 14+ Allies in its planning, implementation, and delivery of projects to maximize impact in community and Ally learning
• Assess Ally learning and evaluate the effectiveness of core program components to ensure programmatic outcomes and performance measures are met
• Complete administrative duties related to Ally management, including maintaining Ally files and managing Allies training requirements, and adherence to program expectations and policies

Organizational Advancement


• Create and support program innovations that improve quality, increase impact, decrease costs, or encourage growth
• Develop and implement strategies that will connect, engage and develop alumni and volunteers
• Represent the organization at key programmatic conferences, networks and coalitions
• Build relationships with local businesses and other non-programmatic partners that will support our goals and growth.

Qualifications:
Qualifications


• 3 + years of professional experience in program development and implementation with a track record of achieving results
• Passion for and demonstrated commitment to addressing issues education/youth development and/or community/economic development; significant knowledge of community resources in these areas
• Experience in relationship and stakeholder management, including initiating new partnerships and linkages
• Knowledge of organizational development and capacity building and the ability to assess and evaluate individual, organizational and community-level impact
• Management experience, including the ability to motivate and coach people of different backgrounds and abilities to achieve results
• Experience in team- building and collaborative leadership as well as in conflict resolution and creative problem-solving, including peers and colleagues beyond the organization
• Demonstrated experience in training, facilitating and curriculum development
• Strong critical thinking/analytical skills and an ability to be resourceful; “systems” thinking and the ability to develop sustainable systems for increasing efficiency and effectiveness
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with flexibility, efficiency and diplomacy with diverse constituent groups
• A commitment to diversity and an openness to personal and professional growth
