The Surdna Foundation is expanding its program team. Surdna is seeking three new Program Officers to join the Foundation. Created by John E. Andrus in 1917, the Surdna Foundation is a family foundation based in Manhattan. The Foundation seeks to foster sustainable communities in the United States - communities guided by principles of social justice and distinguished by healthy and sustainable environments, strong local economies, and thriving cultures.

Position: Program Officer for Strong Local Economies
The Surdna Foundation seeks a Program Officer to work as part of a four-person team on all aspects of the Strong Local Economies Program. The Strong Local Economies Program aims to create robust and sustainable economies that include a diversity of vibrant businesses and sectors and improved access to quality jobs for low- to moderate- income individuals, people of color and immigrant populations. The Program also supports economic development practices that produce equitable outcomes, improved job quality in existing low-wage income structures, and ultimately, opportunities for economic stability and upward mobility. The Program Officer will have a strong record of achievement and relevant experience in the nonprofit, public, or private sector, a minimum of 8 years in the field, an advanced degree in a related field (preferred), and substantive knowledge of the fields and issues related to at least one of the Program's strategies.

The Surdna Foundation seeks a Program Officer to work as part of a four-person team on all aspects of the Sustainable Environments Program. The Sustainable Environments Program's work is grounded in an understanding of the interplay among the environment, the economy, and social equity and it is dedicated to shifting to a just and low carbon society. The Sustainable Environments Program aims to support the urgent need for innovation around what will be next generation infrastructure that delivers basic services and ties together metropolitan areas, communities, and neighborhoods. To do so, the Program will focus on the integration of four interconnected infrastructure elements: Transportation Networks and Equitable Development Patterns, Urban Water Management, Energy Efficiency in the Built Environment, and Regional Food Supply. The Program Officer will have a strong record of achievement and relevant experience in the nonprofit, public, or private sector, a minimum of 8 years in the field, an advanced degree in a related field (preferred), and substantive knowledge of the fields and issues related to at least one of the Program's strategies.

The Program works in the following areas: Artists as Partners in Economic Development, Community Engaged Design, Artists Engaging in Social Change, and Teens' Artistic and Cultural Advancement.
