Lantern Community Services
Lantern Community Services ("LCS") is the social service affiliate of Lantern Organization, a not-for-profit housing developer and service provider, established in 1997 to strengthen New York City communities by providing affordable housing and opportunities for personal development. LCS provides services to residents living in more than 1000 units of permanent affordable and supportive housing for low-income families and individuals living with special needs including mental illness, HIV/AIDS, as well as young adults aging out of foster care.
The Life Skills Coach provides in-home instruction and support to tenant members addressing personal hygiene, time management, money management, shopping, house-cleaning, cooking, nutrition, and general care of the living environment. This is a non-exempt position.
•Help tenants understand the need for various aspects of house-cleaning and assist with the necessary steps to accomplish it
•Help tenants understand the need for personal hygiene and demonstrates, using adult learning techniques, bath techniques, hair treatment, deodorant use and other necessary activities, as well as shopping for the required materials
•Help tenants with food preparation, including shopping, refrigeration, planning and preparing food for meals
•Help tenants set itineraries for themselves, such as meetings with doctors, therapists, social workers, agencies and others
•Help tenants communicate with case managers about needs for assistance
•Work with case managers to document interactions with tenant members and keep track of outcomes
•Perform other job-related functions, as assigned
•Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field.
•Minimum of 2 years experience providing direct service to one or more of the following populations: persons living with AIDS /HIV, formerly and chronically homeless persons and families, young adults aged out of foster care, persons with mental illness, or persons in recovery from addiction.
