Northeast Bronx community development organization is seeking an experienced and effective community organizer/tenant advocate to work with tenants, landlords, elected representatives and other groups to organize tenant associations, assist in securing benefits, hold workshops and to improve community quality of life, Must have have strong advocacy and negotiation skills and be bilingual - English/Spanish. Client intake for tenants seeking assistance in the areas of housing, eviction prevention and benefits assistance. Review documents and help tenants understand their rights and provide assistance and/or make appropriate referrals, as needed. Assist tenants with housing court issues and (and accompany as needed. Coordinate all aspects of tenants associations, workshops and gatherings Maintain case files accurately and timely as required. Assist with organizing and advocacy campaigns as needed. Other responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least 2 years experience in tenant advocacy & eviction prevention including experience maintaining an active case load required. Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills. Strong writing, data management, administrative and computer skills required (Word, Excel, Access). Bi-lingual Spanish/English required.
