Key to success in this role will be a track record of creating and implementing broad reaching, multi-pronged communications strategies that drive unified messages throughout diverse audiences and geographic regions as a way of driving change and impacting social movements. Leading candidates will have demonstrated achievement in devising strategic communications plans and media relations programs, as well as significant experience cultivating successful relationships with the media nationally and on Capitol Hill. S/he ideally is familiar with the legislative process and federal, state, and local public policy issues, specifically those affecting low-wage workers, the immigrant community, and the working class population. Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required as well as exceptional detail orientation; adeptness in managing to multiple deadlines and fast-changing priorities; and an aptitude for capturing in writing the voice of the working class.
A bachelor's degree, preferably in communications or a relevant field, is required along with eight years of communications or campaign management experience in labor, advocacy, social justice, or related work. The selected candidate will bring experience in strategic communications planning; success as a project manager in a fast-paced, campaign-oriented work environment; knowledge of effective social media tactics; and a familiarity and obvious commitment to social and economic justice and issues related to working families.
