Women's Housing and Economic Development
The Sustainability Manager will ensure WHEDco's mixed-use developments are maintained as green buildings through the measurement and tracking the energy and utility performance, education, planning, and building improvements.
Urban Horizons Retrofit Project
•Manage final stage of residential retrofit project including the budget, cash flow, timeline, financing and contract requirements.
•Oversee commercial energy audit and retrofit planning process.
•Identify potential retrofit funding sources with Development and assist with proposals.
•Coordinate residential energy retrocommissioning work with government agencies and consultants. Energy Management, Reporting and Compliance
•Track and manage the energy performance of Urban Horizons and Intervale Green.
•Collect and organize utility data, establish energy/water usage and costs, analyze use patterns and trends, and identify areas of potential cost savings.
•Update UH and IG energy and water consumption reports as needed for asset management, property management or fundraising purposes.
•Comply with requirements under Greener Greater Buildings Plan for IG and UH.
Education on Energy/Water Issues
•Use principles of behavioral psychology to create and conduct targeted tenant education workshops.
•Manage tenant leadership councils or green teams.
•Help identify and apply for new sources of funding for education and behavior change work. Building Improvements
•Work with Housing Development Director to identify capital needs for two large multifamily buildings.
•Identify and assist with applying for potential funding sources.
•Implement capital improvement projects in coordination with housing development director, superintendent, property manager, residents, commercial tenants and WHEDco staff.
•Manage project budgets, timelines, funding requirements, contracts/agreements, and vendors/contractors.
Organization-Wide Sustainability Planning Identify and create a plan to “operationalize” cost/resource reduction strategies within WHEDco
•Measurement and communication
•Carbon emission reduction goals
•Healthy eating at work: vending machines, drinking water, microwaves
•Integrated Pest Management
Master’s degree or comparable experience in urban planning, sustainability, real estate development, public administration or community development.
• Building Performance Institute training or Multifamily Building Analyst Certification preferred
•Proficient with principles of green building and energy efficiency.
•3 years project management experience
•Familiarity with affordable housing development in New York City, including local/state agencies and private sector entities.
•Commitment to the issues facing low-income families.
•Excellent communication writing and presentation skills.
•Organized, enthusiastic, flexible and entrepreneurial.
•Sense of humor and perspective.
