Executive Director
Public Allies New York
Description
The Executive Director leads and administers a Public Allies Corporate site. Reporting directly to the COO, the Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing a vibrant, value led and impact driven operation in its aim to strengthen communities through development of home-grown leaders and increasing capacity of the social sector. Primary responsibilities include but not limited to ensuring operational and programmatic excellence, fund development/fundraising, external relations, and driving the development of community impact strategies through collaboration, innovation, and strategic partnerships in the communities the program serves. Internally, the Executive Director builds capacity and infrastructure to support effective programming, staff development, operational and financial management to create and sustain an organization that is rooted in the community.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Executive Director include but are not limited to:
Site Leadership
• Sets clear goals and expectations for staff and provide timely and helpful feedback on progress toward meeting those goals and expectations
• Leads, coaches, mentors staff and provide ongoing opportunities for staff development
• Support innovations and creates partnerships that improve program quality, expand program impact, and encourage program growth and sustainability
• Establishes, engages and develops an active local advisory board that champions the program in the community, supports fund development, fundraising, and affiliation
• Develops, implements, and maintains effective communications strategies to attract and support our impact
• Develops internal capacity, infrastructure, systems and procedures for planning, managing, tracking and achieving goals and outcomes
• Participates and/or plays a leadership role in Public Allies national planning and coordinating activities with other local offices
• Develops and implements a community impact strategy and through collaboration and innovation; facilitates the identification of needle-moving initiatives in the community
• Ensures the site receives an “A” in the scorecard
Fundraising and Fiscal Management
• Leads all site fundraising efforts to garner the necessary resources to operate effectively and be financially sustainable
• Prospects, cultivates, and manages all donor relationships (foundations, individuals and corporations) and ensure reporting requirements and other grant compliance responsibilities are met/exceeded
• Identifies in-kind support that reduces program and operating costs and increases organizational and program effectiveness
• Manages and oversees local finances in full compliance with Public Allies fiscal management policies and procedures
Stakeholder Management
• Works with staff, alumni and stakeholders to engage community resources, ensuring wide stakeholder involvement in the identification of potential partners
• Lead organization in determining collaborative potential and cultural fit between Public Allies and potential partners
• Support contract negotiations to ensure effective partnerships, including communication of clear expectations around all operational, financial and programmatic functions
• Develops and manages a plan for implementing and sustaining strategic relationships with community partners
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
• 5+ years of professional experience in leadership and management with a track record of high quality performance in an entrepreneurial environment
• Strong strategic and critical thinking skills; has an ability to clearly communicate a vision and inspire staff & stakeholders to achieve the vision
• Demonstrated success in identifying, building and managing key stakeholder relationships within the community thus increasing organizational visibility, deepening partnership, and funding support
• Strong staff management experience including the ability to motivate and coach staff to achieve results
• Strong team-building and collaborative leadership skills
• Entrepreneurial spirit; ability to identify key opportunities and challenges and the agility to respond accordingly
• Mental agility; able to manage complexity, weather ambiguity, and champion change
• Values diversity and inclusion, continuous learning, accountability and integrity
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with flexibility, efficiency and diplomacy with diverse constituent groups
• Value led and results driven with high energy level and a healthy sense of humor
