According to the Department of Defense, as of August 21 there had been 4,407 American deaths and nearly 32,000 troops wounded in the Iraq War.

Marine Lance Corporal William Wayne White, age 24, from Brooklyn. Died on March 29, 2003 in Iraq.

Marine Staff Sergeantt Riayan Augusto Tejeda, age 26, from Manhattan. Died in hostile action on April 27, 2003 in Iraq.

Navy Commander Joseph Acevedo, age 46, from the Bronx. Died on April 13, 2003 in Manama, Bahrain.

Army Private Rasheed Sahib, age 22, from Brooklyn. Died on May 18, 2003 in Balad, Iraq.

Army Private First Class Rayshawn Shamell Johnson, age 20, from Brooklyn. Died in hostile action on November 3, 2003 in Tikrit, Iraq.

Army Staff Sergeant Linda Carol Jimenez, age 39, from Brooklyn. Died on November 8, 2003 in Washington, United States.

Army Reserve Captainain George Andrew Wood, age 33, from Manhattan. Died in hostile action on November 20, 2003 in Ba' Qubah, Iraq.
