Mustafa Sullivan
Mustafa was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He joined Sistas and Brothas United as a staff organizer in 2001 and came from a background in environmental education, leadership development, and experimental theatre. In his eight and a half year history at SBU he has organized neighborhood improvement committees in the Bedford Park, Moshulu Woodlawn and Kingsbridge Heights neighborhoods as well as school based reform campaigns in about 10 different high schools in the Bronx. In March 2006, he became SBU's Director. He has worked on different educational issues that have secured major improvements in school safety policies, facility repairs, small schools reform, student support services, and student voice on several high school campuses. In 2002, he worked in partnership with Fordham University and youth and adult members from SBU and the Coalition to design a new high school called the Leadership institute as the lead organizer. In 2004, He was also one of the founding organizers to work on developing the Urban Youth Collaborative and was involved in creating its citywide platform for change. He now works on national education reform with the Alliance for Educational Justice as their eastern regional organizer.
