FYI: Manhattan Assemblymember Scott Stringer and state Sen. Eric Schneiderman said this morning that they will introduce legislation to make gun manufacturers liable for gun violence if they don’t take steps to block illegal trafficking of their products. The bill would establish a “code of conduct” that manufacturers must follow. Those that chose not to would be left open to lawsuits from victims of gun violence in New York and would be barred from selling their guns to state agencies. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People lost a court case earlier this year in which it sued gun manufacturers that it charged had knowingly allowed guns to be illegally trafficked into New York City neighborhoods.
